“Don’t reprimand Me for whom I Am”Systemic Discrimination Against Transgender Women in Lebanon
Discrimination in being able to access knowledge, occupations, homes, and health care is far more intense for trans women that lack recognized detection paperwork that fit their own sex term. In Lebanon, term and sex markers can only feel altered through a court ruling. In January 2016, an appeals legal in Lebanon delivered a ruling allowing a transgender people to switch their identity and sex marker on their identification documents, overruling a lesser judge and compelling the federal government to improve the papers. The judge learned that sex affirming surgery shouldn’t be a prerequisite to gender identity acceptance.
Regardless of this good precedent, the trans lady whom people Rights Watch interviewed mentioned procedural hurdles, like higher costs, reluctance to take part in protracted judge legal proceeding, and diminished legal assistance discouraged them from pursuing legal rulings to improve her gender markers.
